Protect Our Reef & Waterways

Welcome to

Save Whitsunday Water

Dittmer, an environmentally significant and sensitive region located in the Whitsundays Hinterland, lies within both the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) and Proserpine catchments. This location amplifies the risks of mining activities in the area, as they could endanger the GBR's health and threaten water quality across the Whitsundays Region, increasing the potential for contamination and long-term ecological damage.

What Is Happening at Dittmer that Impacts

Whitsunday Water & The Great Barrier Reef?

Ballymore Resources has a pending application for ML100351 to mine copper and gold in Dittmer, which includes Kelsey Creek.

The proposed mining lease now covers 272 hectares — around 20 times the size of the original historic mining lease.

ML100351 is part of the larger Dittmer Project, spanning approximately 488 km² from the Proserpine Dam to Bloomsbury.

The lease area includes Kelsey Creek, which flows through the Kelsey Creek and Lethebrook agricultural hub, eventually reaching the Great Barrier Reef (just 30 minutes away in a direct line).
